Smokers Smoked Out in Scandinavia

Friday August 17, 2007
Watch out, smokers - as of August 15 2007, you can no longer smoke in Danish bars, restaurants, and some other public places. Naturally, pub and restaurant try their best to accommodate smokers with outdoor facilities and designated smoking areas. Smoking is still allowed in small bars (less than 40 sq meters) in Denmark, though.

As many Scandinavia travelers know, Norway and Sweden already introduced similar laws (also see the in-depth article Smoking in Scandinavia). So now all of Scandinavia is smoke-free (except Iceland, where you can still light up almost anywhere).

With this new law, Denmark joins several other European countries that have created anti-smoking regulations: Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Sweden and Britain already have these restrictions in place.

What do you think - is that good public health policy, or rather discrimination against smokers?
