Small Airplane in ScandinaviaOfficials from the European Union - and from Denmark in particular - have named seven online booking websites in an ongoing crackdown against misleading travel ads and price schemes.

Online travel sites run in Denmark by Ryanair, Air Berlin, Air Baltic, SkyEurope, Aer Lingus, Brussels Airlines and Seat24 were singled out for violating European consumer law, as opposed to lawfully operating online booking sites like the travel price search engine Kayak.com. The 7 have been accused by Denmark's consumer ombudsman of misleading travelers regarding booking prices and terms under which the flight tickets are to be used.

The EU investigation so far has indicated that the main problems are unexpected additional fees, hidden taxes and vague terms and conditions. A statement has been made that in May of last year, about a third of flight tickets were offered under misleading terms.
