The Polar Nights Phenomenon

Winter has arrived, and the temperatures in Scandinavia are dropping. It is getting closer to Christmas, which means that is is also getting closer to the time of the Polar Nights. The best time to experience them is late December.

The northernmost part of Scandinavia does not get a single ray of sunshine in Polar Nights. This usually happens exclusively inside the polar circles.

A common misunderstanding is that at each point inside the polar circle, the winter day is completely dark. Because of twilight, this is not true. Polar regions such as northern Norway actually often get more light throughout the year than regions located closer to the equator! Learn more here:
