The Øyafestivalen in Oslo, Norway
Oslo's Big Rock Event in August

By Terri Mapes, About.com

The Øyafestivalen in Oslo is a major music event in Norway that offers an amazing line-up of internationally known rock and indie bands, singers, and other performers! This annual event takes place in the first half of August.

The Oya Festival is most likely Oslo's biggest rock (and indie) music festival. You can find the outdoor stages and entertainment in Oslo's Medieval Park (in Norwegian: "Middelalderparken").

The Oya Festival does not only entertain your ears, though. I also love eye candy, which means the festival market in the park (depending on the weather in Oslo). If you're more the articulate type try participating in a few debate groups (brush up on useful Norwegian phrases)!

Accommodation for Oya is often booked weeks and months in advance, so act fast. Favorites here are camping near the event, or - if the camping spaces are booked - best get a room in one of the low-cost hotels in Oslo.

Or, take a look at other annual events in Norway!
