Ice Skating at Kungstradgarden (Stockholm)

By Terri Mapes, About.com

Go have some fun at the Kungstradgarden ice rink this winter! It's Stockholm's favorite location for ice skating.

Scandinavians are good at ice skating, so don't get discouraged. For Stockholm visitors coming to the city during the winter months, a great afternoon can be spent here at the venue Kungsträdgården. Modeled on the ice rink by the Rockefeller Centre in New York, this popular rink opened in 1962.

This outdoor ice rink is a popular local point all winter long, from mid-November until March - as long as it's cold enough for the ice. This place has a great atmosphere with live music and stands with hot drinks and various other (hot and cold) treats.

So, bundle up in your warm clothes and plan an afternoon outdoors with family and friends in Stockholm's large Kungsträdgården park. Here, the public is always allowed - no hockey games or private parties can occupy the rink. And the best part is: Stockholm does not charge for the fun - Ice skating at Kungsträdgården is absolutely free!
