Lolland is the fourth largest Danish island in the Baltic Sea, located south of Zealand. Lolland is about 480 square miles big, and two islands near Lolland are Falster and Møn.

On Lolland, you find the sand dunes typical for Denmark, along with the beautiful Sakskøbing Fjord and Nakskov Fjord. Major towns on the islands of Lolland-Falster are Nykøbing, Maribo, Sakskøbing, and Nakskov.

Popular activities on Lolland are visits to the Museumsbanen (museum train) in Maribo, Nakskov's Green World Zoo, and the submarine U-359. Lolland also houses several museums, no matter which town on Lolland you're visiting.

A 12th-century royal residence, Ålholm Castle, is located in the town of Nysted. Today, there's a car museum inside. There are several architectural gems on Lolland-Falster, such as Knuthenborg Manor with its Safari Park (open April-October).

Lolland is connected to Denmark's Zealand by bridge. You can get to Lolland from Copenhagen with just a 1 1/2 hour drive (130 km) by taking road E47 south.

If you want to visit Germany from Lolland, follow road E47 across Lolland to Rødby, where a ferry connects Lolland to Germany's town of Fehmarn. Hotel Zleep Rodbyhavn is a good 2-star hotel next to the ferry terminal.
