Varde Minibyen

Minibyen is not your average attraction. In fact, Minibyen can't offer howling rides or breathtaking views. This attraction in the Danish town of Varde goes the other way - the closest comparison I've found is an outdoor museum. But it's not that either.

Minibyen is a beautifully detailed miniature town, modeled after the Danish town it is located in: Varde, around the year 1860. The scale is 1:10, which lets you see lots of architectural and historical details and at the same time you can still glance across the 275 rooftops of Minibyen. I know it's a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in Varde (check the weather in Denmark).

The historic town of Varde was burned down by some of the town's inhabitants in the 1860s and has been resurrected here on 3,500 square meters. Minibyen is reputed to be "the world's only miniature town that has been correctly constructed from a craftsman's point of view."

The park of Minibyen allows you to bring dogs, and food. There is a kiosk where you can buy food, ice cream, and beverages.

Varde is located on Jutland - the western half of Denmark - just 18 km (11 mi) north of Esbjerg (relief map of Denmark). Then, find this little gem in Varde's Arnbjerg Park by following the signs in Varde. The entrance of Minibyen is at Arnbjergallé 4.

Minibyen costs 30 Danish Kroner for adults and 12 Danish Kroner for children over 2. Opening times are from 11 am - 4 pm daily from the middle of May until late October.
