Fans of Tove Jansson's Moomins cannot visit Finland without dropping in to see the Moomin Museum in Tampere, and the wonderful Moominworld near Turku.

The Moomin Museum is situated in the city of Tampere, which is 180 km northwest of Helsinki. The museum is in the basement of the City's main library. In the Museum you can see the original illustrations by Tove Jansson, 40 miniatures, tableaux about Moomin events and a miniature Moomin House.

There are now over 2,000 Moomin works in the museum's collection, and a lovely little Moomin statue outside the museum. You can see the original Moomin Valley multimedia, view an exhibition, and visit the Moomin Valley shop which sells gift items and Moomin books in many languages.

You can walk to the Moomin Museum from the city centre of Tampere by going straight to the top of the main street Hämeenkatu, to Hämeenpuisto. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 9 – 5 and Saturday/Sunday 10 – 6. In June, July and August, the museum is also open on Mondays from 9 – 5.

Entrance fees for the Moomin Museum: adults 4€, children (ages 4–16) and students 1€.
