The flag of Finland is white with a blue cross extending to the flag's sides, and the vertical part of the cross is shifted to the left (the style of a Scandinavian Cross). This flag is Finland's national flag, first adopted in 1918. It is the officially used flag, representing Finland worldwide.

The blue and white colors are taken to represent water and snow, both of which Finland is famous for. The flag's Finnish name is Siniristilippu.

It is permitted to fly the Finnish flag at any time, and there is a number of days on which the flag of Finland is seen on public buildings - you will always see the flag of Finland on these national days:

  • February 28
  • May 1 (Labour Day)
  • Mother's Day
  • June 4
  • Midsummer's Eve
  • December 6 (Independence Day)
  • Election days in Finland
