Now that you have decided to visit Scandinavia, let us find out what kind of documentation is required, and whether you need to apply for a visa beforehand.

Will I need a passport for Iceland?

European Union citizen - No (National ID sufficient)
USA - Yes
Canadian - Yes
Australian - Yes
Japanese - Yes

Will I need a visa (if stay is less than 3 months) in Iceland?

ALERT: Icelandic consulates no longer issue visas. For visa information and individual visa assistance, contact a Danish Embassy near you. Please note that applications cannot be made by post and appointments must be made in advance. You can contact them by phone or mail.

Travelers visiting just one Schengen country should apply to the consulate of that country; travellers visiting more than one Schengen country should apply to the consulate of the country chosen as the main destination or the country they will enter first (if they have no main destination).
