Åre is a very popular ski resort in Sweden, and also Northern Europe´s largest and most diverse alpine sport resort for all skill levels, especially advanced skiers. I like this ski resort for its size and variety of activities.
Location of this ski resort in Sweden (map): Central Sweden, 90 km (55 mi) west of Östersund or 150 km (93 mi) east of Trondheim, Norway.

This is another "big one", one of my favorite ski resorts, and probably the most popular resort among Swedes. It's a great spot for intermediate skiers. Sälen offers a total of six ski resorts in one, all of them interconnected with the four ski areas: Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, and Hundfjället.

Vemdalen is one of the smaller ski resorts in Sweden, but nothing to sneeze at. Snow is guaranteed here, and the slopes open as early as October! This ski resort consists of the areas Björnrike, Klövsjö/Storhogna, and Vemdalsskalet. Lots of nature here - I think it's beautiful.

Aimed mostly at families and intermediate skiers, Branäs ("Ski Branäs Fritidscenter") is a nice, compact ski resort with lots of accommodation. I simply love that there is snow assurance very early in the season and that the central location makes this a ski destination that's quick to reach.

The ski resort of Tärnaby and Hemavan is one for adventurers. Winter sport activities include unusual stuff like heli-skiing! With all the activities and entertainment, Tärnaby/Hemavan attracts a younger crowd than the other ski resorts in Sweden. The Scandinavian nightlife here offers the best aprês-ski parties in Sweden!
